About
The Region
Known
to many as home to the Texas State Capitol, Texas Longhorn sports
and the Austin City Limits concert program, Greater Austin boasts
a roster of world-class companies and educational institutions,
a bountiful array of parks, waterways and woodlands, and a well-known
campaign to “Keep Austin Weird.”
A five-county metropolitan region of 1.4 million people, Greater
Austin leverages its top-ranked public and private schools and
the dynamic presence of the University of Texas at Austin, Texas
State University-San Marcos, the Round Rock Higher Education Center,
Austin Community College and other higher education assets to boast
a workforce of unparallel quality.
And, while Greater Austin is recognized for such top employers
as Dell Computer, Samsung Austin Semiconductor, Whole Foods Market,
IBM, Freescale Semiconductor, Seton Healtcare Network, Advanced
Micro Devices and many others, the regional economy is also highly
diversified and comprised of many small and medium-sized businesses. Dynamic
public entities such as the State of Texas, University of Texas
at Austin and regional public school systems round out the employment
picture in the five-county region.
